Sense of place

A sense of place, for me, is an area where I can relax, where good memories are stored, where I am at peace. I enjoy areas in which I feel alone, and the surrounding area is filled with exuberant colors, or lush green trees. The domain in which I participate in activities also pertains to my sense of place. Not only is my sense of place in the middle of nature, but also partaking in activities with close friends and family. A sense of place must be meaningful, why would it be a sense of place if you did not feel welcomed? Or at home per say.

Art appropriation

Appropriation in art is the use of pre-existing objects or images with little or no transformation applied to them.The use of appropriation has played a significant role in the history of the arts (literary, visual, musical, and performing arts). In the visual arts, to appropriate means to properly adopt, borrow, recycle or sample aspects (or the entire form) of human-made visual culture.

Darn good print

Along with a hand painted film photo, we were supposed to develop an amazing, meaningful negative. The photo must be profound and interesting, and should captivate the viewers attention.

I was drawn to the photo because there is a lot going on. Many tasks are being undertaken by workers, how it seems to be a tad hectic, and the time in which this photo was captured intrigues me.

I took this photo while I was abroad in Chile. I loved the lighting at the time I took the photo, and enjoyed how the contrasts in certain sections of this photo were evident.

In my class, we are being introduced to gum bichromate. Gum bichromate is a 19th century photographic printing process based on the light sensitivity of dichromate a. It is capable of rendering painterly images from photogenic negatives. Gum printing is traditionally a multi-later printing process, but satisfactory results are obtainable.

Japanese Book Bindings

In my class, we had to bind pieces of paper to create a Japanese book. There are many ways to make these books. The most common way is to poke four holes into around 8 pieces of small 5 x 7". You then use unbleached French linen thread and can find many different ways to make distinct thread patterns. The books are typically used to jot down any ideas you have regarding film, or whatever you may be doing.
